UPDATE: November 1, 2023
Now with RTK
Juniper Systems is excited to announce its Geode GNS3M GNSS Receiver will now support RTK Fixed position capability. The Geode GNS3 allows users to easily collect real-time GNSS data with sub-meter, sub-foot, decimeter, and now centimeter accuracy options. With the addition of the Hemisphere GNSS Athena RTK Engine, Geode users will have access to the full spectrum of professional-grade mapping accuracies. This scalable platform allows users to purchase the level of accuracy they need now while having the option to increase accuracy in the future.
With an RTK activation, the Geode can deliver two-centimeter accuracy through the use of Network RTK service providers that are available worldwide. This allows Geode to be used in cases that require certain standards or accuracy requirements, such as meeting the suggestions of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and their 38-22 and 75-22 publications for GNSS accuracy.
The RTK license activation can be included at time of purchase of a multi-frequency enabled Geode GNS3M; or added at any time in the future to an existing GNS3M receiver. Multi-frequency activation is required for RTK.

More accuracy. More Options.
Juniper Systems is excited to introduce the next-generation Geode™ GNS3 GNSS Receiver. The Geode GNS3 is a truly scalable receiver. The Geode GNS3 allows users to easily collect real-time GNSS data with sub-meter, sub-foot, and decimeter accuracy options – without the huge price tag or complexity of other precision receivers. This scalable platform allows users to purchase the level of accuracy they need now while having the option to increase accuracy in the future.
Available in both single frequency and upgradable multi-frequency antenna configurations, users are sure to find the level of accuracy they need to get the job done. The Geode GNS3S (single frequency) offers superb sub-meter accuracy with a single frequency antenna. The GNS3M (multi-frequency) allows for scalable accuracy. Its multi-frequency antenna includes support for all constellations on L1, L2, and L5 frequencies. These multi frequencies, together with Atlas L-Brand correction subscriptions, allow for up to decimeter accuracy.
In this article, we take at the features that make the Geode GNS3 the most capable GNSS receiver Juniper Systems has ever released.

Scalable accuracy
The Geode GNS3 is available in two models, the GNS3S and GNS3M. The GNS3S is Juniper’s continuation of offering affordable sub-meter accuracy on a single frequency receiver. The GNS3S directly replaces the Geode GNS2.
The Geode GNS3M is a step forward for the Geode family. The GNS3M offers users a multi-frequency antenna matched with the receiver that allows for increased accuracy options that include sub-meter, sub-foot, and decimeter.
The Geode GNS3M allows users to collect precision and multi-constellation GNSS data with more than 800 channels and through various signals, including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and others.
SBAS corrections are also supported with 3-channel parallel tracking in North America, Europe, India, and Japan. Additional correction services using RTK/CORS/NTRIP networks are supported to achieve even greater accuracy.
In locations where SBAS and network connections are not available, the Geode GNS3M supports Atlas worldwide subscriptions to provide L-Band corrections. Atlas subscriptions include multiple accuracy options with sub-meter (50 cm), sub-foot (30 cm), or decimeter (10 cm) levels of accuracy.
Open interface
The Geode GNS3 continues to offer users flexibility with its open interface. The GNS3 works with a wide range of devices running various operating systems. All GNS3 models can be used with Microsoft® Windows devices, Android™ devices (Android 7 and above), as well as a broad range of Apple® iPhone® and iPad® devices. This range of connectivity allows for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) situations where many users within an organization may be using the Geode. Juniper Systems’ range of rugged handhelds and tablets offer a premium and rugged GPS experience no matter the environment they are being used.
Juniper Systems’ Geode Connect™ software allows users to easily connect the Geode GNS3 to any supported device. Geode Connect is designed to allow users to configure settings for the Geode and set up communication with the receiver.
All-day battery life
Working in the field uninterrupted is invaluable to GIS professionals. Battery life is often the biggest culprit of downtime while on a job. The Geode GNS3 offers improvements that will keep the work going. The Geode GNS3S, with its single frequency receiver, sips power allowing it to achieve up to 16 hours of run time in the field. The GNS3M, with its multi-frequency receiver, provides 10 hours of battery life. The run times allow less interruption and more work. If users are ever in a pinch, the GNS3 can be powered and charged with an external battery bank via the USB-C port.
Designed for form and function
The Geode GNS3 maintains the same compact design as the previous GNS2, though a slight increase in product height has been introduced to accommodate the GNS3’s multi-frequency antenna. The GNS3 comes in at 4.36”(W)x4.36”(L)x2.25”(H) (110x110x57mm). The small size of the Geode allows for easy packing and set up.
Another significant part of the Geode’s design is its all-in-one approach. The inside of the Geode contains the receiver, antenna, and battery, making it easy to carry around and mount without a mess of wires. The Geode still allows for external antennas to be used thanks to the external antenna port on the front of the device. The device is charged using a USB-C port, and all GNS3 models come standard with a flush-mounted RS-232 9 pin port on the bottom. With Bluetooth, USB, and a Serial port included on every Geode, any connection method needed is available, even multiple connections at the same time.
The Geode is operated with one button on the device, making it easy to use in the field. The Geode Connect application will allow for additional interfacing with the Geode. Four indicator lights on the front of the device allow for quick reference for satellite connections, power, Bluetooth® connection, and battery indicator. New to the GNS3 is the ability to reset the receiver not only from the software. But in a pinch, users can press and hold the power button to reset all settings.
Affordable price points
The release of the Geode GNS3 and its single frequency and multi-frequency variations provides users with additional price point options and the ability to choose the kind of accuracy they need and offers an eye to their future accuracy needs. The GNS3S offers sub-meter accuracy at an affordable price point for those doing mapping and data collection where a larger radius of accuracy still works.
The GNS3M allows users to scale their accuracy from sub-meter to sub-foot to decimeter accuracies via corrections and Atlas subscriptions. The GNS3M can be purchased to just perform sub-meter accuracy work while allowing users and organizations to improve that accuracy via subscriptions if more accurate work is required, offering truly scalable accuracy at an affordable price.
Juniper Rugged™
Juniper Systems has built its reputation on rugged and durable data collection devices. The tradition continues with the Geode GNS3. An IP68 rating provides a waterproof and dustproof enclosure. Testing against U.S. standard MIL-STD-810G ensures the GNS3 will withstand drops, shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
These ratings and testing standards ensure that the Geode GNS3 can hold up in any environment. The Geode GNS3 is perfect for applications in construction, survey planning, water utility location, and agricultural mapping and planning. The GNS3 is also a logical solution for remote mapping projects where correction services are not available, such as in archaeology, environmental sciences, and wildlife management.
