Juniper Systems Eliminate E-Waste With On-Site Repair Team

In a world increasingly driven by technology, the environmental impact of electronic waste (e-waste) has become a growing concern. Juniper Systems has the unique opportunity to reduce e-waste by designing durable products that can withstand the rigors of demanding environments and housing our own repair team.

Crafting rugged data devices built for longevity and offering an in-house repair team allows Juniper to extend the lifespan of rugged devices, reduce e-waste, and promote a more sustainable approach. This strategy not only supports global efforts to minimize e-waste but also reinforces our Company Maxim #5: We provide products and use manufacturing practices that help conserve natural resources and preserve the environment.

Juniper Rugged

Juniper’s rugged devices are durable and are designed to withstand harsh conditions, such as drops, extreme temperatures, water, dust, and vibration. This reduces the likelihood of damage and the need for early disposal or replacement.

Our Mesa® Rugged Tablets, Archer™ 4 Rugged Handheld device, and Geode™ GNSS Receiver have a robust construction, with MIL-STD-810 performance standards, safe from drops, shock, vibration, humidity, scorching heat, and frigid cold temperatures. Built to endure the harshest conditions, they can also afford to get a little bit grimy with an IP68 rating for protection. The 6 means these are entirely dustproof. The 8 means they are waterproof and can be fully submerged in water for 30 minutes.

Because of the rugged design, Juniper devices last longer than standard consumer-grade devices. This reduces the frequency of device turnover, which is a significant contributor to e-waste. From rechargeable batteries to sturdy design, Juniper Rugged devices greatly reduce the overall waste of electronics.

Manufactured and Repaired in the USA

Juniper Systems is the clear environmental leader when it comes to e-waste management, due to the repairability of devices. Many manufacturers in the industry rely on device replacement and then discard an entire unit as a warranty strategy. Rather than wasting good parts, Juniper repairs the majority of the products for issues that develop, both warranty and non-warranty.

Because the majority of our rugged devices are manufactured in the US, the Juniper repair team understands the specific design and operational requirements of our rugged devices, thus making repairs for parts easy to fix or replace. The repair team can resolve issues promptly, replacing only faulty components, preventing devices from being discarded prematurely, and ensuring they remain operational longer. This repairability has allowed Juniper to keep about 30 thousand devices out of landfills over the last 10 years.

By prioritizing durability and maintaining a dedicated repair team, Juniper Systems plays a pivotal role in reducing e-waste and fostering a sustainable future. These efforts not only help to minimize the environmental impact of discarded electronics but also demonstrate a commitment to our company values. Investing in products designed to last and providing accessible repair options ensures that fewer devices end up in landfills, and more resources are preserved for future generations.
