Creating a Topographic Survey with the Mesa 2 Rugged Tablet

Topographic surveys are used to provide an accurate 3D representation of the characteristics in a specified area of land. This information can include peaks, valleys, vegetation, utilities, and other physical attributes. The survey can then be used to determine placement of retaining walls, material removal, recompacting material, etc., eliminating error in estimations.

This Essential Craftsman video gives a quick overview of the process of using spot elevations to create contours from a topographic survey. With Carl Sweeden and his GeoMax “robotic sheepdog”, using the Mesa 2 Rugged Tablet and Carlson Software, a topographic survey is created.
