Frequently asked questions
1. What OS runs on the Mesa Rugged Tablets?
The Mesa 3 is available running Windows 10 or Android 9.0. The Mesa 2 is currently available running Windows 10.
2. What are the main differences between the Windows 10 version of the Mesa 2 Rugged Tablet and the Mesa 3 Rugged Tablet?
The Mesa 2 and Mesa 3 share the same ergonomic ultra-rugged body and hot-swappable battery capabilities, among other things. Where they differ is on the inside. The Mesa 3 is running on a newer Intel processor architecture backed by 8 GB of RAM compared to the 4 GB in the Mesa 2. This increase allows for more demanding tasks, larger datasheets, and more programs running at once. The Mesa 3 also has a base storage size of 128 GB and is also available in a 256 GB variant.

3. What’s the difference between the Windows 10 and Android 9.0 version of the Mesa 3?
The Mesa 3 running Windows 10 operates on an Intel processor and functions just like a desktop or laptop PC. The Android version of the device is built on Qualcomm® mobile technology. The physical build and ruggedness of the device are the same regardless of which operating system users choose to purchase.
4. What’s the battery life on the Mesa 2 and Mesa 3?
For the Mesa 2 and Mesa 3 running on Windows 10, the included battery has an operation time of 8–10 hours and is removable. An optional internal battery adds an additional 4–5 hours of battery life to the device. This optional battery also provides hot-swapping capabilities to the device. This allows you to replace the larger removable battery without powering down the device first.
The Mesa 3 running on Android features 10-12 hours of battery life with the included removable battery and an additional 5-6 hours with the optional internal battery.
5. What do IP68 and MIL-STD-810G mean?
IP68 and MIL-STD-810G are standards developed to test devices against simulated environmental conditions. The IP68 certification establishes that a device is resistant to water and dust. The MIL-STD-810G testing establishes versatility against a variety of tests, including resistance to shock.
All Mesa Rugged Tablets are dustproof and waterproof, tested to withstand full submersion at 1.4 meters for two hours. It’s also shockproof, tested to withstand multiple 4-foot drops to concrete.
6. How is the Mesa different than a consumer tablet in a ruggedized case?
The Mesa Rugged Tablet was designed from the ground up to meet not only Juniper Rugged™ qualifications, but several other certifications and durability standards.
- IP68 waterproof and dustproof
- Operating temperature: -4 F to 122 F (-20 C to 50 C)
- Storage temperature: -22 F to 158 F (-30 C to 70 C)
- Shockproof: multiple drops from 4′ (1.2 –1.5 m) onto concrete
- Designed for MIL-STD-810G test procedures
Securing data has always been one of Juniper Systems’ top priorities. Often times, the time, effort, cost, and resources of replacing data due to a broken consumer device outweighs the investment of an ultra-rugged device.
The ergonomics of the Mesa were designed to reduce fatigue and allow for all-day use in the hand. Consumer tablets, though thin and compact, are often hard to hold in any natural position while in the field.
