You may have heard about the American-Burmese expedition team that recently climbed Mount Gamlang Razi, with the hopes of measuring its elevation and establishing a new highest peak in Southeast Asia. You may have read a snippet of the beauty, the dangers, the success, and the controversy that surrounded their journey, and the dismissal of their data that shows that Gamlang Razi is in fact Southeast Asia’s highest peak by many Burmese natives, including Myanmar’s president. However, this is only part of their story. And today, the trailer for Myanmar: Bridges to Change, a film capturing their entire journey, was released. I have to say, it looks pretty awesome. You can watch it here.

According to Fisher Creative, the producer of the movie, “the film is not just a recounting of a mountaineering expedition, it’s also a film about a people and a country that are on the brink of rapid change, and what this might entail for the future of the country and its people.”

The film’s world premiere is set for June 14, 2014 in Yangon Myanmar, and it’s bound to be fascinating. Featuring footage in one of the most remote corners of the earth where only a handful of westerners have ever set foot, the movie depicts the unique culture of the Burmese people, many of whom have never before seen white faces. It also captures both the beauty, as well as the dangers of the team’s 200-mile trek through snake-infested jungles and their final climb of virgin-peak Gamlang Razi to capture critical GPS data at the summit (using the Archer Field PC).

The film will be available for download on iTunes starting June 14th.

Judging from the trailer and these photos, this movie is going to be pretty amazing. Watch the trailer here.
